A graduate in, you guessed it, metallurgy, from a second rate college,
made the author eminently unqualified to write a book—never mind
one about life in a harem. Fortunately, no one told Mariyah, and in
many moments of blind optimism and delusion, Harem Girl was
written.
Born in England, Mariyah Saalih traveled extensively in Europe and
the Middle East before settling down to relative obscurity in North
America where a large part of Mariyah’s life is spent playing
maidservant to the family cat Sasha.
A tour of the grand harem in the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain,
inspired the writing of this first full length novel.
